Oslo

The next day we fly from Tallinn direct into Oslo, Norway. Our flight was scheduled to take 1 hour 30 mins but took a lot less, I think the pilot was in a hurry to get home. We land in Oslo with snow everywhere, including the runway! The girls think it is the best thing since white bread.

As we only have the afternoon to see Oslo before flying out again we decide to drop our bags off at the hotel and head out. For once my sense of direction failed me, and instead of heading to Oslo’s famous Opera House, we ended up walking down Karl Johans gate with about 5000 other people. As it turns out the Christmas markets were also on in Oslo, and we had accidentally found them. They had lots of stalls selling food, some rides, and of course ice skating. The girls had a ride on a merry go round then we had to try a chocolate coated waffle as we saw some people eating them. They were super rich and even Ella found it too much so we had to order some plain ones. This was definitely the highlight of their day.

After that we headed back in the opposite direction to the Opera House. This is an amazing piece of architecture, not quite as good as the Sydney Opera house but still pretty good. From what we saw Oslo is a nice city, but very different to what we had seen so far. It was a lot more diverse culturally, it had the usual European features such as the begger’s, gypsies and I assume pick pocketers. The other thing we found out very quickly is that Norway is hideously expensive, where a latte can cost $10 and a family sized pizza is $50. Tomorrow we head north to well inside the Arctic circle to Tromso.
