From Barcelona to Getxo. This is a nice but long drive. We get to see some amazing parts of Spain around Haro. We arrive and we are all looking forward to some nice accommodation. Bitterly disappointed. What was sold on the internet as a b&b is actually quite close to an expensive hostel. No locking doors, no parking for the cars and two Russians plus bub living on site. Welcome to Getxo (the getto). To add to the craziness was the fact that we paid for 8 people got 7 beds the first night then got moved from 1 room and given a smoky mattress and Donna for the second night. I can,t even bring myself to talk about the dog which was living in the house. That is a whole other story. Needless to say we were happppppy to move onto our next place.
Travelled through Sans Sebastian towards the high Pyrenees France. The Houses and Daddy have headed off skiing for two days. We are now staying in a slice of heaven. In a Gite near Asque. The only negative is the size of the roads. Small winding roads with basically no passing area. Really only one car wide. The host told us today …. oh it’s alright you might only have to reverse for 1 km to find an area to pull off and pass or be passed. Mmmm this is ok if u are a local or can hug the side of the cliff. Otherwise it can prove a little hairy at times.
However no car driving for us today we stay at home and take in the surroundings. Snow capped mountains. Go for a walk around the local hills. Mum drops her glasses and by the time we head back in the car to look for them they are in pieces by the side of the road. Some one has run over them in a car. No more glasses for Mum.
Yesterday we went to Lourdes and we were all bitterly disappointed. Not somewhere I would even recommend for people to drive through. Referred to locally as a religious supermarket. We however did have a win with some local markets at Bagneres de Bigorre. Amazing fresh foods especially the meat. Cheese is crazy good.
More to come….
