We got to Bergen and it was raining, not quite the white Christmas the girls were looking for. Our accommodation is a nice airbnb right in the city centre. From our windows you can see across the city and to the top of the mountain where the funicular runs. We are in Bergen for 3 nights over Christmas, and almost all places are closed over Christmas and don’t reopen until the 27th Dec. It was kind of nice as generally there was not many people around. It was also a chance for us to relax and spend some time at home. We had time to watch some more Christmas movies and just hang out a bit which was good for both us and the girls.

On Christmas Day we went to the harbour and looked at the old buildings in the Bryggen district. It may look like my pictures are a little wonky but it is exactly how the buildings are. When you walk inside them the floors are all up and down, you can really feel it and see it. There were also a lot of large ships moored in the harbour for the Christmas break.

After that we joined the hordes and we rode the funicular to the top of the mountain. Being the only real attraction open it was quite busy but it was still a nice view right over the whole city. On the last morning we had a quick walk around the harbour to the old city fortress before heading to the airport.

Norway is a spectacular country, some of the best looking landscapes you will see. It is impossible to see everything in one go as the country is very spread out and getting around can be difficult at we found out. It hits you in the back pocket everywhere you turn, it feels like you are walking around just handing out $100 notes. However we loved every moment, and it will go on the list of places we would like to go back to. To see the northern lights twice was something very special. The girls loved the snow everywhere up the top end but the darkness is hard to adapt to. Norway is truly one of a kind, but a place you have to visit to really appreciate.
