We will never know what it is like to experience a spring in Europe. Temps are still low. Range from 3-7 with a wind chill. I am really unsure how people live for such periods of time with no warmth, no sun. Just an observation…..
St Remy seems quite small in comparison to Arles and some of the other places we were thinking of staying. We get split here with the Houses and Kate staying quite literally in the forest near St Remy. Amazing artists cabin. Negative they had to drive through a forestry and quite a rundown dirt road to find it and the owner seemed to be having a few issues with his power (Maree we have quite a few stories). Mum lucks out and gets to stay with us and the girls. What was thought to be a short straw turns out to be lucky for Mum. She at least has hot water and a kettle. Still we are in Europe, so come rain, hail, ice, snow or shine we are out and about seeing the sights. See pictures.
We drive (yes again) out of St Remy where we have had a three night stop and head over to Grasse inland from Nice/Cannes. We have a major divert, its our first major toilet issue. Finally after resorting to buying a coffee from the rude french men we get to use a toilet and we are of aain.
Grasse – Here we stay with a couple of Brits in a proper b&b. beautiful house with amazing views, very close to everything. We have left ourselves short of time here. Both Leon and I have put it onto our return to list. Loved loved this region. Maybe it just the fact that we are back near the ocean.
No rest for the wicked after 2 nights we head back up to Annecy. We pass through the alps and through some of the most perfect countryside. A little over half way through we hit fog and the cars warn us of ice……mmmmmm. This is after Dan talking about black ice and giving the other car a talk about how dangerous it can be…. We arrive in Annecy and Accom is great. Tomorrow is another day time to sleep and get ready for it.
Sleep gets interrupted by an Earthquake about 4km from Annecy. It’s only a 3.4. Mum and Kate have there bags packed, the houses have figured out an escape route and the Wilschefski sleep right on through it. Leon wakes doesn’t hear any sirens so elects not to wake me but to go back to sleep. As dad would have said only those with a clear conscience sleep well.
I manage to fall victim to the group bug which is going round. This is ok as I spent the morning in bed while Leon takes the girls out.
Tomorrow we are off to Interlaken short trip only 2hrs. It turns out I am right about the lack of sun and warmth a doctor tells me that he is treating more people this year with depression because spring just hasn’t come. Still raining and cold.
Will keep you posted on what our Accom is like.

It sounds so beaut. am really envious. Good on you Clara the Brave. Nice postcard, many thanks. Luv u. Liz
LOved your news and humour in the face of adversity. Some people should definitely be connected with tourism or other people for that matter. You’re moving at a cracking pace and probably finding it hard to know where you are when you wake up. If only one could permanently erase the bad places from memory.
Perfect weather here….sorry. You should be at Lake Como and I do hope the accommodation is good…..it makes or breaks a place as you’ve found. There was a dreadful B and B we stayed at Dorchester in England and I almost ran out of the place as soon as Bert could get going. I would have left before dawn had it not been for his slowness.
Bert saw Pollock yesterday and finally realises that going on dialysis would not be desirable. He’s to have a bladder washout with the home nurse next Tuesday. The new drug has helped his autoimmune problem but his createnine level has risen yet again and this may be due to the fungal infection, hence the bladder washout. I think it will take something much more substantial to make any difference to the infection.
Enough for the organ recital. Hope the antibiotics are doing their job. The south of
France is lovely.
Love to all
