Tokyo

We finally reached Tokyo, our last stop before going skiing then heading home. Tokyo for the girls was really only about one thing, Disneyland. We have done temples, shrines and everything else so we didn’t book in too much for Tokyo apart from Disneyland and some shopping.

The girls absolutely loved Disneyland even though it was cold, and the crowds were huge. We enjoyed riding on rides such as Pirates of the Caribbean, the Go Gadget roller coaster, a jungle boat ride and the steam train. They also loved the parade with all their favourite Disney stars. We could have done 2 days here but the queues were ridiculous, even for popcorn! We would have liked to go on more rides but some of the queues were up to 2 hours long.

The next day we went to have a look at the Tokyo Skytree. It is 634m tall and currently the second biggest tower in the world. We could see Mt Fuji from here because the weather was pretty clear, but the lift ride which ascends at 10m/sec got to me a little and I was feeling quite light headed. A little break was needed then we were off shopping.

On our last day we met up with our friend Saya, who came to stay with us last year for a teacher exchange program. She acted as our guide for the day and took us to Ameyoko markets near Ueno station, Harajuku, Shibuya and Shinjuku where we had a beautiful lunch in a Japanese restaurant. It started to rain by the time we got to Harajuku so it was a sea of umbrellas. We got quite wet and cold, so we had to cut things a little short, but it was great seeing our friend Saya again. The next morning we caught the bullet train for Nozawaonsen.
