On our second day in Yangshuo we decided to rent pushbikes and head out into the countryside. That meant we had to take on China’s traffic. There are no real fixed road rules, only suggestions. On our way into Yangshuo we saw a car overtake another car, whom was overtaking some motor bikes and pushbikes all at the same time. The outermost car was almost off the other side of the road, with tour buses coming towards us further down the road.
I just wish I had the foresight to bring a bike attachment for the go pro, as it was quite hairy at times. You just have to commit and go, it is absolute chaos but it works for them. Pedestrian crossings are just a place for you to try cross the road, cars do not stop unless you walk out in front of them.
We cycled for about an hour and a half to a place called moon hill, which is a short steep walk to a couple of lookouts and a large sandstone arch, all in about a 45 min walk with the girls. These old women followed us all the way to the top with esky’s full of water and coke, trying to sell it to us every 5 mins. We also ran into some other Aussie’s at the top.
The next day we were leaving for the airport so we organised our driver to come pick us up nice and early, so there was no repeat of the amazing race. This guy was nice, spoke English, knew the way, even if it meant driving on roads whilst they were still building them. It doesn’t matter if a road is finished or not, it is all fair game. We came across workers trying to run out a string line so we turned off. Then we had to turn around at a big pile of gravel so we back tracked a little and continued on our way.
At the airport Abbie and Ella were still drawing crowds. At one stage we could have sold tickets, and probably drinks from an esky too. We caught our flight to Xi’an without too many problems and we were the only Westerners on the flight.

Loving the blog! I can’t quite make it out from the pic, is that a tandem bike? Sounds like you’re enjoying yourselves, travel safe xx
Hey Rach, the bikes were tandem’s, Ella was with me and Abbie with Amy but theirs had a smaller child seat. Hope you guys and Jackson are all well.
Looks like you found Chinese Lucky dog.
The girls loved Chinese Lucky but she didn’t seem to respond to their commands.
