Hiroshima

We arrived into Hiroshima mid afternoon and found our accommodation up the back of the city on the top of a mountain. We knew the place had a view but it was amazing. It looked out right across the city, with the Seto inland sea in the distance. The last 2 photos below were taken from the apartment.

That afternoon we headed straight down into the city to see the atomic bomb dome site and the peace park. It was starting to get dark when we got off the tram but there were still a few people here. Everyone was just taking it all in and absorbing all the history, there was no noise, it was very quiet and respectful. It was a place we will never forget and we could spend more time here. We didn’t see a lot of the city, but what we saw was beautiful and was our favourite city so far on this trip. We will definitely come back here.

The next day we caught the train and then a ferry to Miyajima to see the Itsukushima Shrine and Mount Misen. I had been watching the weather and the forecast wasn’t looking good. It turns out that they were right on the money, it was raining and windy. The cable car to the top of Mount Misen was also closed which was disappointing as this is one of the best scenic spots in Japan. The shrine was still beautiful, but this along with Hiroshima is going on the must return list. The next day we left to head north for Okayama.

Hi been looking at your blogs, catching up with where you are at. I know you are having loads of fun. Everything is ok at home. Stinking hot, we have the air on in the van today, its 39 in the shade of our annexe awning. Peter is in love with Lucky, she’s being a good girl, we love her. Everything is good in the house, we spend part of every day in there and cook tea and shower/toilet. Mum is up at Kate’s and we are glad that she is taking time out from the responsibilities of being here for Lucky. Glad to make her life easier. We’ve got a new house sit booking starting late March until May. Looking forward to that. Up in the Stanthorpe district. Take care and enjoy your last couple of weeks, and have a happy new year tonight or when it happens in your time zone. We are staying in, probably sit in the house with a lasagne dinner cooked in your beautiful kitchen. We saw Brad and Kirsty last night for NY, they are over at Kirsty’s people tonight.

    Judy (and Peter) xxxx
